Coach Bobby Petrino already has worked his magic at
Arkansas, as the Hogs played in their first BCS bowl last year, losing to Ohio
State in the Sugar Bowl to cap a 10-3 season in which Arkansas’ only losses were
to Top-10 teams. Can Petrino take Arkansas to the next step and an SEC title?
The Razorbacks are 13/1 to win the SEC and 6/1 to take the loaded West Division
on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. Arkansas had one of the nation’s Top-10 offenses last year behind quarterback
Ryan Mallett. Yet this year’s offense could be just as good
even though Mallett is now a New England Patriot. QB Tyler Wilson
is a Heisman candidate himself and showed flashes of stardom when he
relieved an injured Mallett in a game vs. Auburn last season. Wilson threw for
332 yards and four touchdowns in less than three quarters in that loss. Arkansas
was set to return the SEC’s leading rusher from last year in Knile
Davis, who had 1,322 yards and 13 TDs in 2010. However, Davis was lost
for the season in fall camp and now Ronnie Wingo and
Dennis Johnson will share the load. Arkansas has one of the
deepest receiving groups in college football in Joe Adams, Greg Childs,
Cobi Hamilton and Jarius Wright. The offensive line
has to replace three starters. Back on defense are seven starters, including the Razorbacks' top three
tacklers from 2010: Jerry Franklin, Jerico Nelson and
Tramain Thomas (the interceptions leader). The addition of
junior college tackle Robert Thomas should give the Hogs one of
the top defensive lines in the league. The Razorbacks rose 53 spots to No. 36
nationally in total defense last season and should improve on that finish with a
veteran group. Arkansas opens the season Sept. 3 vs. Missouri State. The Razorbacks’
