Marquette (19-13, 9-9) never was really threatened by the Friars, winning 87-66 after scoring the first 17 points of the game. Darius Johnson-Odom scored 23 points and Jimmy Butler added 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead Marquette. The Big East is hoping to get a record 11 teams in the Big Dance and MU is the 11th seed in the tournament. Now Marquette gets 20th-ranked West Virginia, the defending Big East Tournament champion.

WVU (20-10, 11-7) is an NCAA Tournament lock. The Mountaineers ended the regular season on a three-game winning streak, including victories over ranked teams Connecticut and Louisville. Of course West Virginia reached the Final Four last year, and Bob Huggins has some key veterans back from that team, led by junior forward Kevin Jones (13.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg). WVU is among the best teams in the country at defending the 3-point shot as teams manage only 28.8 percent from the arc. WVU and Marquette played just once this season, back on New Year’s Day. Host Marquette won 79-74.

The winner of this game faces Louisville on Thursday.
