After getting stunned in Game 1 at home by the No. 8 seed Memphis Grizzlies
in Game 1 of the Western Conference
quarterfinals on Sunday, the San Antonio Spurs will have top scorer
Manu Ginobili back for Game 2 tonight after he sat out that
loss. The Spurs are 8.5-point favorites to tie the series on Bodog’s NBA odds.
Only three teams in NBA history have lost the first two games of a series at
home and recovered to win the series. Technically Ginobili is still listed as doubtful with his hyperextended (non-shooting) right elbow. But all signs point to him wearing a brace and playing because San Antonio obviously can’t go down 2-0 at home. Plus the Grizzlies have now won three straight against the Spurs dating to the regular season. Ginobili has taken part in all practices since the postseason began, though none involved full contact, and earlier this week went 1-on-1 with another Spur to test
his elbow. Ginobili’s season high of 35 points came in a win over Memphis on Feb. 27. Ginobili, who's averaging 17.3 points, the second-highest total of his career, has 34 20-point plus games this season. And he’s a very good free throw shooter, something San Antonio struggled with in Game 1 in missing 11 of them. Plus the Spurs missed Ginobili’s range. They were the NBA’s best 3-ponit shooting team during the season but were just 6-for-15 in Game 1. Memphis won Game 1 on Shane Battier’s 3-pointer with 23.9
seconds left for a 101-98 victory that was the first in the club’s playoff
history. The difference really was the duo of Zach Randolph and
Marc Gasol. They combined for 49 points and 23 rebounds on 19
of 25 shooting compared to 19 points, 14 rebounds and 9-for-18 shooting for
Spurs counterparts Tim Duncan and Antonio
McDyess. Can the Grizz pull another upset? Bet on this game at Bodog!
