For one, the Chicago Bulls, who closed the season winning 21 of 23 games, overtook the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs should the two meet in the NBA Finals. Of course the Bulls and Spurs are the top seeds in their respective conferences.

The Eastern Conference matchups were set in stone heading into Wednesday, but the West had several slots still open. The Los Angeles Lakers were pushed to overtime in the likely final game ever in Sacramento but held on to keep the No. 2 seed in the West. The Mavericks blew out the New Orleans Hornets to earn the No. 3 seed. Despite that loss, New Orleans kept the No. 7 seed over Memphis, which lost to the Clippers. That’s not good news for the Hornets, actually, because now they play a Lakers team that swept them during the regular season. Plus New Orleans enters having lost three straight games, all by double digits.
