Most are billing it as the MVP against the Big 3, and despite the fact that the Chicago Bulls led the NBA in wins during the season and swept the Miami Heat in three meetings they are the underdogs as the Eastern Conference Finals begin on Sunday night.

The Bulls won the three games by a combined total of eight points. And two of those were in Chicago and one without LeBron James playing. Chicago and Miami are interlocked in that the Bulls were hoping to land two of Dwyane Wade, LeBron and Chris Bosh – James and Wade said they at one point thought they would be Bulls. And Chicago’s Carlos Boozer wanted to play for the Heat as he lives in South Florida.

Arguably the matchup that will decide this series is Boozer vs. Bosh. Boozer averaged 13.3 points and 9.6 rebounds in three regular-season matchups with the Heat and has averaged 11.8 points and 9.5 rebounds through 11 playoffs games. Bosh averaged 15.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in those three meetings with the Bulls (going 1-for-18 from the field in one loss in Chicago) and has averaged 16.3 points and 9.6 rebounds through 10 playoff games.

Chicago has the clear advantage at point guard in MVP Derrick Rose, with Miami expected to use both James and Wade to help guard him. And it should have the advantage at center with Joakim Noah and certainly with its bench. But Miami has the edge at the other three positions. Will the Bulls allow Miami’s Big 3 to score 80 combined points? That seems unlikely as Chicago didn’t allow that once during the year. But the Heat are 14-1 this season when James, Wade and Bosh go for 80. The Heat are 2-2 on the road in these playoffs. Chicago is 5-1 at home.
