In Tuesday night’s 102-93 victory over San Antonio, which ended the Lakers’ five-game losing streak, Los Angeles saw Bynum go down with a hyperextended knee. A serious injury to Bynum could severely jeopardize the Lakers’ chances at a threepeat. He exited the game with 8:11 remaining in the second quarter after stepping on DeJuan Blair’s foot. Bynum had four points and four rebounds in 13 minutes and did not return. Bynum will undergo an MRI on the knee Wednesday and did not travel with the team to Sacramento.

Bynum is the team’s most valuable defensive player and probably will miss at least a few games, meaning the start of the playoffs. Since the All-Star break he has averaged 11.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. Reserve guard Steve Blake remains out with the chicken pox and reserve forward Matt Barnes also will sit again with a knee problem.

The Lakers have won eight of their last nine against the Kings, and four straight in Sacramento. The Kings are expecting back star guard Tyreke Evans, who sat out Monday's 120-112 loss to Oklahoma City with a sprained left ankle. Look for a spirited effort from the Kings because this could be the franchise’s final game in Sacramento. A move to Anaheim for next season seems likely. If the Lakers lose and Dallas wins, Los Angeles opens the playoffs against a Portland team that has given the Lakers problems.
