Oklahoma City was supposed to be quite good this season, but the Denver
Nuggets are a bit of a surprise after trading Carmelo Anthony.
The teams meet up in an NBA betting
matchup in the Western Conference playoffs this weekend. Oklahoma City (55-27, 43-38-1 ATS) lost its final game of the season, but the team elected to rest its players—no starter played more than 24 minutes. Before that, the Thunder had won five consecutive games, including three straight against the spread. The Thunder are 19-5 since March, including 10-2 at home. The Thunder boast some of the best young talent in the NBA. Kevin
Durant is coming off his second straight scoring championship after
averaging 27.7 points per game this season. Durant’s average slipped a bit from
last year, but that’s mostly a product of Russell Westbrook’s
emergence. The third-year point guard posted career highs in points (21.9 per
game) and assists (8.2 per game). Oklahoma City’s recent run can be partly attributed to Kendrick
Perkins, who was acquired from the Boston Celtics via trade. Perkins
brings a bit of a mean streak to the Thunder, as he’s an excellent rebounder and
defender. Denver (50-32, 44-34-4 ATS) was supposed to implode after it traded away
Anthony, but the complete opposite has been true. Since then, the Nuggets are
17-7, including an absurd 19-4-1 run against the spread. Denver has cooled a bit
down the stretch, though, going 3-3 in its past six games. Injuries could be a major factor. Denver has six different players who have
missed at least one game in the past week due to injury: Arron
Afflalo, Chris Andersen, Wilson
Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov
and Nene. The Nuggets are deep, but that’s pushing
things.
