Welcome to the third installment of our NBA ATS Countdown for the 2010-11 campaign. In each issue, we look at the league’s top five teams against the spread as well as key against the spread situations that should help with your own handicapping process. In addition, we provide a bonus NBA league-wide system from our powerful NBA database. Here are the top five NBA teams when it comes to covering the spread. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES take over the number one spot in our countdown knocking the Philadelphia 76ers off their perch. Memphis has used solid performances at home and on the road to move consistently to the top. Overall, the Grizzlies are 46-26-1 ATS for 63.9 percent against the spread winners. They rank second in the league when playing at home with a spread record of 22-12-1 ATS for 64.7 percent winners and third in the league on the road with a 24-14 ATS mark which is good enough for 63.2 percent spread winners. The Grizzlies have had the oddsmakers number for the most part this season, it doesn’t seem to matter if they are at home or on the road they continue to take down the book on a consistent basis. KEY ANGLE: The Memphis Grizzlies are 8-0 ATS as a road dog with no rest after a game on the road in which they shot less than 60 percent from the free-throw line. CHICAGO BULLS entered our Countdown for the first time in our last issue at Number 4 and have continued their rise to the top as they currently sit in the second spot overall. The Bulls are 45-26-1 ATS for 63.4 percent winners so far this season. They currently hold the Number 1 spot when playing at home with a record of 23-12-1 ATS for 65.7 percent winners. Chicago has done a good job on the highway as well coming in with a Number 5 ranking and a record of 22-14 ATS that is good enough for 61.1 percent winners. Bulls backers are enjoying over 60 percent spread winners on the road and at home this season, it is easy to see why they hold the Number 2 spot in our Countdown. KEY ANGLE: The Chicago Bulls are 14-0 ATS at home after a loss in which they had at least 10 shots blocked. PHILADELPHIA 76ers had dominated the top spot in our Countdown this season but they have finally been dethroned and in the process fell to the Number 3 position. In our last issue the 76ers had used a 13-9 ATS run to hold onto that top spot but a 6-7-1 ATS mark since our last issue was enough to knock them off their perch. Philadelphia is 43-28-1 ATS for 60.6 percent winners this season, which includes a home record of 21-13 ATS for 61.8 percent and 22-15-1 ATS on the road for 59.5 percent. KEY ANGLE: The Philadelphia 76ers are 8-0 ATS on the road after suffering two straight double-digit spread losses. SAN ANTONIO SPURS were a newcomer to the Countdown in our last issue as they entered in the fifth and final spot. We noted their strength came when they were on the road hitting 67.9 percent spread winners, which was good enough for the second best road record in the league when it comes to covering the spread. They have once again used the highway to propel them to the Number 3 spot in our countdown. Their spread record on the road is best in the league at 24-11-1 ATS for 68.6 percent spread winners. Playing at home has been the Achilles Heel for Spurs backers as they are ranked 13 in the league with a record 17-18-1 ATS for 48.6 percent. Overall, the Spurs are 41-29-2 ATS on the season for 58.6 percent winners. KEY ANGLE: The San Antonio Spurs are 14-0 ATS after a double-digit home loss in which they scored more than 25 percent of their points from the free throw line. NEW YORK KNICKS have continued their downward spiral in our Countdown falling from Number 2 in our last issue to Number 3 and now they are bringing up the rear with a Number 5 ranking. The Knicks have been one of the best teams when it comes to covering the spread away from home in fact they held the Number 1 spot in our two previous issues but have since dropped a spot to Number 2 on the road. They are 23-13-1 ATS away from the Garden for 63.9 percent winners. Much like the Spurs, home has been a problem for the Knicks as they are tied with the Spurs at 17-18-1 ATS for 48.6 percent. New York has an overall spread record of 40-31-2 ATS for 56.3 percent winners. KEY ANGLE: The New York Knicks are 10-0 ATS as a dog in the third game of a three-game road trip after losing the first two games. NBA ATS COUNTDOWN BONUS SYSTEM: Play ON an NBA home favorite of less than 11 points/pick em off a road game shooting less than 30 percent from the field vs. an opponent with less than two days rest. Playing ON these home favorites has produced a perfect record at 13-0 ATS since 1996 covering the spread by 13.6 points per game. This concludes our third issue of the NBA ATS Countdown for the 2010-11 campaign. We hope you find this information useful in your search for NBA spread winners.
