Both the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox had been playing their best baseball of the season of late so probably neither team was too thrilled that their respective games were rained out Tuesday. The two open a mini two-game series on Wednesday night in Boston in what could certainly be a playoff preview. Bet on the series now at Bodog!

The Red Sox are finally over .500 and enter on a four-game winning streak after sweeping the Yankees and winning the one game they played in Baltimore. But not all the news is good. In the past two days, Boston has placed John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka, 40 percent of its starting rotation, on the disabled list. But maybe this isn’t bad news after all. Dice-K and Lackey are a combined 5-8 with a 6.69 ERA. Alfredo Aceves will come out of the bullpen to start against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, with Tim Wakefield scheduled for Sunday.

Look for the Tigers pitchers to try and pitch around Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. In the last 10 games (Boston has won eight of them), Gonzalez is hitting .348 with seven homers and 16 RBIs in 46 at bats. He leads the majors with 37 RBIs.

Detroit had a season-high seven-game winning streak snapped on Monday night vs. Toronto before Tuesday’s rainout – that was the Tigers’ second rainout in the past three games. The Tigers turn to lefty Phil Coke (1-5, 4.54) tonight. Coke is winless over his last five starts, having allowed 17 earned runs on 34 hits over 25 2/3 innings. Boston starts Clay Buchholz (4-3, 3.94). He is coming off his best start of the season, a seven-inning, two-run start against the Yankees. The righty is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA career vs. Detroit.
