The San Diego Padres and the New York Mets will close out their four-game MLB betting
series on Thursday afternoon when they take to the diamond at Citi Field.
Sitting well under .500 on the season, the Padres have been officially
written off as they no longer appear on the World Series
futures board at the Bodog Sportsbook.
The Mets are at least hovering around the break-even mark on the season, but
in the tough NL East they're way back at 175/1 on the NL Pennant odds and at
400/1 to win the World Series.
Jon Niese (11-8, 4.12 ERA) gets the ball for the Mets on
Thursday afternoon, and he escaped with a win over the Braves in his last start
despite the fact he surrendered five runs on 10 hits over five innings of work.
Niese also fanned six batters in that contest.
The Mets are 5-5 in Niese's last 10 trips to the mound. The lefthander hasn't
faced the Padres yet this season, but last year he shut them out on one hit over
nine dominant innings of work.
The Padres will go with Cory Luebke (4-6, 3.06 ERA) on
Thursday afternoon, and he's coming off a win over the Pirates (one run on five
hits over seven innings of work). San Diego, though, is just 4-4 over Luebke's
starts since he was shifted from the bullpen.
New York and San Diego will meet again next week, with a three-game series in
San Diego. This weekend the Mets will be in Arizona, while the Padres will be in
Cincinnati.
