The Florida Marlins, who have already fired their pitching coach, are a total mess right now and look to avoid an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the streaking Philadelphia Phillies. Bet on the game with Bodog’s MLB odds.

The Phillies took both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game was an 8-1 rout, but the Marlins played well in the nightcap in getting to Roy Halladay for four runs in seven innings to take a two-run lead to the ninth. But the Phillies scored two in the ninth to tie it before winning it in the 10th. It was Philadelphia’s sixth straight win and ninth in 11 games.

Florida is very much going the other direction. Three weeks ago the Marlins were 29-19 and one game behind Philadelphia in the NL East. Since the team has lost six in a row and 17 of 20 – which ironically started the game after Scott Cousins bowled over Giants catcher Buster Posey to end Posey’s season — to fall 10.5 games back. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who just returned from a back injury, is hitting .206 with four homers. And the Marlins are 24th in the majors with a .235 batting average with runners in scoring position. Manager Edwin Rodriguez could well be the second MLB manager to be fired this season.

Things don’t figure to get easier today as the Marlins trot out struggling Javier Vazquez against the Phillies’ Cliff Lee. Vazquez is 3-6 with a 7.09 ERA, which is only the highest in baseball. Vazquez is coming off one of his roughest starts of the season, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings Saturday against Arizona. Over his last two starts, the right-hander has allowed 13 runs on 15 hits in just 7 2/3 innings. Lee (6-5, 3.41) pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits, striking out seven in his last start. He's won his last four home starts, allowing five runs and striking out 35 in that span.
