The Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals will send pitchers with
identical records to the mound when those teams begin a series on the MLB
betting board on Monday night. Cliff Lee (2-3, 3.78 ERA) and Jake Westbrook (2-3, 6.92 ERA), though, might be equal in the win-loss column, but their performances have not been at the same level in 2011. Lee has turned in quality starts in six of eight outings so far this season,
and he's struck out 64 batters while walking just seven through 52.1 innings of
work. The reason for his weak record? Philadelphia has scored just 10 runs over
his last five starts. Westbrook can't blame run support for his record – St. Louis put up 22 runs
over his last five trips to the mound, over which time Westbrook only managed to
earn himself one win. The righthander was at his worst last time out, giving up
five runs in just 2.1 innings of work in a loss to the Cubs at Wrigley
Field. The Phillies continue to lead the way on the Bodog NL pennant betting board,
with their strong starting staff putting them at 7/5 odds on that chart. St.
Louis sits third on that list at 8/1 odds. Philadelphia is also the leader on
the Bodog World Series futures list at 11/4, with St. Louis back at 18/1 odds to
take the championship this season. The Phillies/Cardinals two-game set continues on Tuesday night, with Philly's
Roy Oswalt (3-1, 3.33 ERA) slated to take on St. Louis'
Jaime Garcia (5-0, 1.89 ERA). Philadelphia then returns home to play host to the Rockies, while St. Louis
gets a visit from the Astros. The schedule doesn't get any easier for those two
clubs when interleague play gets underway on Friday; Philadelphia has to contend
with Texas, while St. Louis has a road series against surprising Kansas
City. Get the best MLB odds and props at Bodog!
