Easily the pitching matchup of the night on Thursday – a rare Thursday where
every team in Major League Baseball
is scheduled to play – is when the Detroit Tigers visit the Boston Red Sox
with Justin Verlander facing Josh Beckett.
Boston is a -135 favorite on Bodog’s MLB odds. It would be hard for both aces to surpass Wednesday’s game, when the Red Sox won 1-0 with both teams combining for just nine hits. In fact, here’s a cool stat: The Red Sox and White Sox both won by 1-0 scores on Wednesday. The last time both Sox teams each posted 1-0 victories on the same day was April 26, 1909. Tonight’s game could well end up 1-0 as well. Verlander and Beckett are
allowing opponents to hit just .175, tied for the best in baseball. They also
both rank in the top four in the American League in component ERA, which is
based on peripheral statistics rather than runs, as well as average game score.
Verlander has allowed three hits to the last 68 batters he has faced, which
includes his May 7 no-hitter in Toronto. Beckett has gone even longer than
Verlander without allowing a run, which he last did in the eighth inning of his
April 27 outing, four starts and 18 1/3 innings ago. The Red Sox will be looking for their sixth consecutive win, which would give
them their longest winning streak since they won six straight last June 15-20.
The Tigers will be out to prevent their first series loss since being swept in
Cleveland at the end of April. Bet on Tigers-Red Sox now at Bodog!
