With all due respect to teams like the Orioles or Pirates, by far the biggest
surprise team of the early baseball season is the Cleveland Indians. Most had
them pegged for maybe 70 wins and last place in the AL Central, but the Tribe
enter tonight’s game at the L.A. Angels on an eight-game winning streak and with
the second-best mark in all of MLB.
However, Cleveland is a +155 underdog tonight on Bodog’s baseball odds. The Cleveland pitching staff was supposed to be a major question mark but has been stellar during the winning streak. Following Mitch Talbot’s 4-0 win on Monday, the starting rotation is 6-0 with a 1.55 ERA (nine runs in 52 1/3 innings) during the streak. Talbot's victory was his first of the season, leaving Fausto Carmona as the only starter who hasn't won a game in the Indians' longest winning streak since a 10-game run in August 2008. Oh, and Carmona
takes the mound tonight. How good are things going for the Tribe? Light-hitting Asdrubal
Cabrera hit his fourth homer of the season on Monday. He hit three all
of last year. The Indians’ 8-2 start is their best since 2002, when they won 12
of their first 13. Angels starter Dan Haren (2-0, 1.15 ERA) gets the call to slow down
Cleveland. He was originally scheduled to pitch Monday but was pushed back a day
after he pitched an inning of relief to get the win in the Angels' 14-inning,
6-5 victory over Toronto on Saturday. Carmona (0-1, 9.00) was awful in his first
start and tremendous last time out, blanking Boston over seven innings and
allowing just two hits. Can the Tribe win another one? Bet on this game now at Bodog!
