Righthander Verlander has been money in the bank for Detroit lately, with the team picking up the victory in each of his last seven trips to the mound (and in nine of his past 10 starts overall).

Verlander dazzled the Diamondbacks in his most recent start, holding them scoreless on four hits over eight innings of work while striking out 14 batters. The righthander has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last six starts to drop his ERA to 2.38 on the season. Verlander has also fanned 124 hitters while walking just 27.

Mike Pelfrey (4-6, 4.78 ERA) will counter for the Mets on Thursday, and he's riding a one-game losing streak after giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings of work against the Rangers in his most recent start.

Righthander Pelfrey is just 1-3 with four no-decisions over his last eight starts for the Mets, and the team won only two of those eight contests.

The Mets are managing to hover around the .500 mark right now, but that hasn't been reflected in their World Series odds. New York is well back at 125/1 at Bodog to surge in the second half and win the championship this season, and they're at 65/1 to claim the NL Pennant for themselves.
