The Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays hook up on the MLB betting
board this week, as the American League clubs kick off a quick two-game series
on Tuesday night. Tampa Bay (0-3) is looking to rebound from an awful start after getting swept by the Baltimore Orioles. The club couldn’t score runs to save its life, managing just a single run in each game. The Rays hit just .132 during the series with a single home run. About the only batter who did anything of note was Ben
Zobrist. Zobrist, coming off a disappointing 2010 campaign, is 3-for-10
with three walks this season—and Tampa’s lone homer. On the other hand, big free
agent signee Manny Ramirez is just 1-for-12 to start the
season. The news only gets worse with star third baseman Evan
Longoria going on the DL on Sunday; he’ll miss a few weeks. The Rays are expected to send Jeff Niemann and
Jeremy Hellickson to the mound, both making their season
debuts. Niemann needs to rebound after struggling through the second half of
2010. Hellickson will be making just his fifth career start, but the rookie has
drawn some favorable scouting reviews in the past. The Angels (1-3) have dropped three consecutive games after getting wasted by
Kansas City in their season-opening series. It’s no surprise pitching is a bit
of an issue, and L.A. has allowed 17 runs in its past two games. At least Jered Weaver and Dan Haren will
get the call against Tampa Bay. Weaver (1-0, 0.00 ERA) led the Angels to their
only win of the season, throwing 6.1 innings of shutout baseball on Opening Day.
Haren (0-0, 1.29 ERA) was also fantastic but was let down by his bullpen; he
went seven innings against Kansas City, allowing just a single run while
striking out six batters. The Angels have 28/1 odds of
winning the World Series, the Rays have 30/1. Get all your MLB odds at
