You would have greatly insulted a Los Angeles Angels fan back in the spring
if you suggested their team would have the same World Series
odds as the Cleveland Indians after four months of regular-season
action. However, here we are with both the Angels and the Indians sitting at 35/1 odds to claim
the World Series title this season. Those two clubs are also tied at 18/1
odds to win the AL Pennant in October.
And that's not because the Angels have played poorly – they'd like to be in a
stronger position in the AL West standings, but they're still in the hunt for a
playoff berth. No, it's because the Indians continue to surprise as contenders
in the AL Central.
These teams will continue their MLB betting
series in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon, with David Huff (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
heading to the hill for the Tribe.
Lefthander Huff made his 2011 season debut for the Indians last time out
against the Twins in Minnesota, and he impressed by giving up just five hits and
fanning five batters over seven scoreless innings in a victory.
Huff, however, went 2-11 with a 6.21 ERA over 15 starts for Cleveland in
2010, so it's best not to read too much into that first sparkling outing.
Countering for the Angels on Wednesday will be Ervin Santana
(5-8, 3.69 ERA), and he's managed to pitch his team to a victory in four of his
last five trips to the mound.
Against the Orioles in Baltimore last time out Santana gave up just one run
on three hits over 7 2-3 innings of work in a 6-1 Los Angeles win. The
righthander faced Cleveland back on April 13, giving up three runs over seven
innings in a no-decision.
