Think the San Francisco Giants miss catcher Buster Posey
already? Posey, easily the team’s best player and the reigning NL
Rookie of the Year, tore up his leg in a gruesome collision at home plate on
Wednesday and is lost for the season. And without their best offensive player
the shell-shocked Giants were shut out on five hits in a 1-0 loss to Florida on
Thursday. Now they have to face one of the NL’s best pitchers as they open a
series in Milwaukee tonight – bet on the game with Bodog’s MLB odds. San Francisco is reeling, clearly, as it was swept by Florida. Posey, the heart and soul of the team not to mention the best hitter on an offensively challenged club, suffered a fractured a bone his lower left leg and three torn ligaments on both sides of his left ankle when Florida’s Scott Cousins barreled into him on a clean play at the plate on Wednesday. You could almost feel the hangover in Thursday’s game. For example, Aubrey Huff, , who replaced Posey in the
cleanup spot, went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts, a double play and a groundout with the tying run at second in the ninth in Thursday’s loss. The good news is that San Francisco starts ace Tim Lincecum
(4-4, 2.06) tonight in Milwaukee. Lincecum threw his first shutout of
the season last time out against the A’s. The right-hander scattered three hits,
walked no batters, struck out six and, at one point, retired 21 straight. But
Milwaukee starts arguably the NL’s best pitcher right now in Shawn
Marcum (6-1, 2.37). He has won six in a row and allowed just one run in
eight innings in his last start. Marcum is the NL’s co-leader in wins and has
allowed one run or fewer in six of his 10 starts. Bet on Giants-Brewers now at Bodog!
