The NL Central was looking like a four-horse race a month ago, but both the
Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds have fallen badly off the pace lately
as they hurt their supporters on the MLB betting
lines. For the Reds, that's probably going to mean they'll fall from being the
division champs in 2010 to missing the postseason altogether in 2011. In fact,
if the Chicago Cubs can keep winning the Reds even have a chance to finish in
fifth place in the division. That reality now has the Reds back at 60/1 on the World Series
odds board at the Bodog Sportsbook, and at 30/1 to win the 2011 NL
Pennant. The Reds at least will get a chance to face off against another non-contender
early this week when they play host to the Colorado Rockies. That series gets
underway on Monday night, with Homer Bailey (6-5, 4.30 ERA) the
Reds' probable starting pitcher. Righthander Bailey beat the Astros in Houston last time out; that's not
exactly a feat to write home about, but at least he was dominant in the outing –
one run allowed on five hits over eight innings of work. That win made the Reds 3-4 in Bailey's seven starts since he returned from
the disabled list in late June. Jason Hammel (6-11, 4.88 ERA) is expected to get the ball
for the Rockies on Monday, and he took a pounding from the Phillies in his most
recent outing (six runs on eight hits over five innings of work in a loss).
Colorado has won four of his last 10 starts. As the Rockies hover near the bottom of the NL West standings their odds to win
the World Series sit at just 100/1, with the team holding down NL Pennant
odds of 50/1. Get all your MLB odds at
