Ending the season around the .500 mark isn't going to be good enough even in
the underwhelming AL Central, so the Chicago White Sox need to go on a real hot
streak if they still hope to make the playoffs this season.
And that means taking care of the Kansas City Royals this weekend, and
knocking off the Baltimore Orioles when those clubs finish off their four-game
MLB betting
series on Thursday night.
With the Detroit Tigers sitting atop the AL Central standings right now, the
White Sox are back at 45/1 on the World Series
odds at the Bodog Sportsbook and at 22/1 to claim the AL Pennant. The
Orioles are so far back in the AL East standings and in the AL Wild Card race
that they've been removed from the MLB betting board.
Mark Buehrle (9-5, 3.04 ERA) heads to the hill for the White
Sox on Thursday, and he hasn't been tagged with a loss since June 16 in
Minnesota. Last time out the lefthander beat the Twins by allowing three runs
(none earned) over his eight innings of work.
Overall the White Sox are 8-2 over Buehrle's last 10 trips to the mound, and
he's given up three or fewer runs in each of his last 17 outings. Against the
O's back on May 2 Buehrle got the victory after pitching 6 2-3 shutout
innings.
Countering for the Orioles on Thursday will be Chris Tillman
(3-4, 4.85 ERA), and he got back into the win column last time out by limiting
the Blue Jays to two runs on four hits over seven innings of work.
Righthander Tillman faced the White Sox in Chicago on April 30, winning that
day as well by surrendering just one run on six hits over his five innings
pitched.
