We’re not even halfway through May, but MLB betting
fans have seen an early shuffle on AL futures. The Red Sox were supposed to
dominate the American League but have flopped, while the Indians—a supposed
cellar dweller—are one of the best teams in baseball. Boston opened the season as the favorite on the AL pennant futures. Despite a rocky start to the season, the Sox have only slipped one spot; they now have 3/1 odds to win the American League, compared to 11/4 for the Yankees. The Yankees were a bit of a question mark because of a poor starting
rotation, but the Bronx Bombers have simply used their bats to climb atop the
American League East. With the lineup mashing, we can expect to see New York
make a move later this season to add some arms to the pitching staff. But the biggest surprise has been, without a doubt, the Cleveland Indians.
The Indians were supposed to be awful, yet they own the best record in the
American League and have climbed to fourth on the American
League pennant odds (10/1). Cleveland’s impressive start has been boosted by
a fantastic run at home (13-2). The Texas Rangers rank third on AL pennant futures with 7/1 odds, but the
defending American League champs have yet to hit their stride. They’re playing
.500 baseball and trail the Los Angeles Angels (11/1 AL pennant odds) in the
West Division. At the other end of the spectrum, oddsmakers are seemingly giving Tampa Bay a
lack of respect. The Rays have 12/1 odds to win the American League—just seventh
best in the league—despite being in a heated duel with the Yankees for the AL
East lead. Since opening the season 1-8, the Rays have been on fire. Get all your MLB betting
