Here's something that hasn't been said very often over the past decade: The
Pittsburgh Pirates aren't terrible. Sure, they're hardly anyone first's choice
as an MLB betting
option, but they're also not in one of the bottom two spots in their
division. And that counts as progress for a club that won just 57 games in 2010. The Pirates continue an interleague series at home against the Orioles on Wednesday afternoon with Kevin Correia taking the mound. Righthander Correia (8-6, 3.60 ERA) ran into some bad luck last time out,
picking up a loss against the Indians despite giving up just two runs (one
earned) on four hits in his 5 2-3 innings of work. Pittsburgh, however, has won four of Correia's last six trips to the
mound. Countering for the Orioles on Wednesday will be rookie Zach
Britton (6-4, 3.10 ERA), who also deserved a better fate when he last
took to the hill against the Nationals over the weekend. Lefthander Britton gave up four runs (just one earned) on five hits in five
innings of work in Washington, with that performance coming on the heels of a
dominating effort against the Athletics (one run on four hits over 6 1-3
innings). The Orioles, mired in last place in the AL East standings, are way down the
Bodog World Series
futures list at 150/1 to claim the championship this season. They're also at
75/1 odds to take the AL Pennant at the end of September. The Pirates, despite hovering around .500, are still well back at 100/1 odds to win
the 2011 World Series at Bodog. Pittsburgh is currently getting 40/1 odds to
take the NL Pennant this season. Get all your MLB betting
