The Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers are both considered young, up-and-coming teams that could make some noise this season. They’ll hook up for a four-game series on MLB betting odds this week.

Neither club has settled on four starters for this series yet. Atlanta is expected to at least start rookie Brandon Beachy, Derek Lowe and Tommy Hanson. Lowe looks like the safest bet for a win right now, as he kicked off the 2011 season in fine fashion last week. The veteran threw 5.2 innings of shutout baseball, leading the Braves to a 2-0 win over the Nationals.

Hanson is a major concern, though. He was bumped from an Opening Day start because of a sore back, and it showed against the Nationals when he finally did get the call. The young phenom was crushed for four runs (three earned) and a pair of homers while lasting just 3.2 innings. Hanson is in rough shape right now.

The Brew Crew have been a chic pick in the National League this season, but they blew their opening series against Cincinnati. Yovani Gallardo and Shaun Marcum will both get a chance to redeem themselves after opening-week losses.

Gallardo actually pitched quite well, but he was let down by a bullpen collapse. The righty allowed just two runs through six innings and left the game with a 5-2 lead. His control was a little off (three walks) but, all in all, it was a good day.

The same can’t be said for Marcum, who was acquired from the Jays in the offseason. Marcum’s presence is a big reason the Brewers are getting some hype, as he’s supposed to round out an improved rotation. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings of work against Cincy. Marcum couldn’t hit the plate, finishing with five walks. That shouldn’t be a lasting trend—he has a career walk-rate of 2.8 per nine innings.
