With 2011 MLB baseball betting around the corner, it’s time to examine this year’s World Series futures. The usual names are there, but there’s a new interesting face in the mix as well.

The Philadelphia Phillies top the list with 13/4 odds to win the World Series. Philly will trot out the league’s most imposing rotation, featuring Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels. Considering the lineup is also peppered with former All-Stars, it’s no surprise to see the Phillies leading the pack.

It’s also no surprise to see the Boston Red Sox next in line with 9/2 World Series odds. After finishing second in AL runs last season, Boston bolstered its lineup by picking up Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford. Now the Sox just need their rotation to come through. John Lackey and Josh Beckett both struggled last year, but both are capable of rebounding. If they do, the American League is Boston’s to lose.

If anyone has something to say about that, it will be the New York Yankees, who have 7/1 odds to win it all. The Yankees’ top-ranked offense returns completely intact but, after losing out on the Cliff Lee sweepstakes and watching Andy Pettitte retire, New York has some questions on its pitching staff.

The defending-champion San Francisco Giants have 12/1 odds to repeat. San Fran’s team is almost completely unchanged from a year ago, but repeating the late-season luck and hot streak will be a tough challenge.

Finally, the Milwaukee Brewers check in as the first unfamiliar face. It’s been ages since the Brew Crew contended for a World Series, but with 16/1 odds it looks like this could be the year. Milwaukee already had a brilliant lineup; after adding Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum to a rotation that already included Yovani Gallardo, it has the pitching to match it.
