It’s the sixth installment of the NFL’s International Series (not to be confused
with the Bills’ Toronto Series) on Sunday when the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay
Bucs face off in London’s Wembley Stadium – kickoff still will be 1 p.m.
Eastern. The Bears are 1-point favorites on Bodog’s NFL odds.
It’s the fifth year in a row the league has staged a regular-season game in
London amid rumors it wants to add another per year. The first International
Series game was in 2005 in Mexico City. It’s the first visit for Chicago but the
second for the Bucs. They played here in 2009 and were crushed by New England
35-7. There are rumors the Bucs may play in this game every year because their
owner, Malcolm Glazer, also owns English Premier League power
Manchester United. Plus the Bucs don’t draw well at home so wouldn’t mind giving
up one per year. Both teams went about preparations very differently, as Tampa
Bay arrived in London on Monday and the Bears not until this morning. Both clubs enter off their best game of the season. The Bears unveiled a much
more conservative approach and protected Jay Cutler well in
crushing the Vikings 39-10 last week. Cutler was a very efficient 21-for-31 for
267 yards and two TDs with no picks. It was his second straight game without an
interception – he has never gone three straight. Cutler also is unbeaten in his
career with a QB rating of 100 or higher. Devin Hester scored his 17th career return touchdown last
week, a 98-yard kickoff return. The NFL record of returns (of all kinds) is 19
by Deion Sanders. You can bet at on whether Hester breaks that
record this season, a yes-only prop at +500. Hester also had a 48-yard TD
reception against the Vikings. Tampa Bay, which is officially the home team this week, surprised New Orleans
last week, 26-20, in Tampa. Bucs QB Josh Freeman threw for 303
yards – his first 300-yard game of the season, with two TDs and no picks.
Freeman has struggled with picks this year with six, his total all of last
season. Earnest Graham subbed for injured starter
LeGarrette Blount and rushed for 109 yards on 17 carries, his
best game since early in the 2008 season. Graham will start again because Blount
will remain on the sideline. But the Bucs may get back defensive tackle
Gerald McCoy, who also missed last week’s game. Home of the greatest game ever played: Get your NFL
