The ESPN Thursday night game is a good one this week as No. 2 LSU faces No. 25 Mississippi State – shockingly, it’s
the first time these two have ever faced off when both were ranked. The Tigers
opened as 3.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds. LSU (2-0) has been one of the most impressive teams of the early season, opening with that beatdown of then top-five team Oregon and then cruising past Northwestern State 49-3 on Saturday. LSU remains without starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and star WR Russell Shepard due to suspension. It’s still not clear when Jefferson will come back, while Shepard will be allowed back in the Tigers’ Sept. 24 game vs. West Virginia. Jarrett Lee has done what he has been asked to do at QB in
place of Jefferson: Not lose the game. He only played a half this past week with
LSU well ahead. Lee was 9-for-10 for 133 yards and a TD. LSU outgained
Northwestern State 400 yards to 95, including 175 yards to minus-4 on the
ground. Mississippi State is licking its wounds after a 41-34 loss to Auburn on
Saturday in which Bulldogs QB Chris Relf was stopped at the
goal line on the game’s final play. Coach Dan Mullen said he
would have gone for two points and the win if Relf had punched it across. MSU
dominated the game statistically, totally 531 yards, including 333 rushing. Relf
passed for 195 yards and a touchdown and ran 27 times for 106 yards. Last year LSU beat Mississippi State 29-7. The Tigers picked off five MSU
passes and won for the 11th straight time in the series. Get the best NCAA team and player props at the Web’s gaming
