Boise St. 28 New Mexico 14

The Lobos won the yardage battle 277-264 and had an 18-12 first down edge but a pair of costly turnovers and other missed opportunities did them in. They fumbled on their opening possession which led to a Boise St. touchdown and a bad punt in the third quarter led to a 17-yard touchdown drive to put the game away for the Broncos. New Mexico starting quarterback Lamar Jordan left the game after a late hit and the Lobos were down to their third starting quarterback for over a half.

Northern Illinois 21 Nebraska 17

Nebraska dominated the time of possession 36:34-23:26 and outgained the Huskies 384-236 but could not recover from an early deficit. The Huskers threw interceptions on two of their first four possessions and both were returned for touchdowns. They eventually took the lead in the fourth quarter but Northern Illinois regained the lead with 8:52 left. The Huskers had two more chances but turned in over on down at the Huskies 33-yard line and tossed another interception on its final drive.

Duke 34 Baylor 20

Baylor was outgained by only 73 total yards but it was unable to convert necessary opportunities. Duke fumbled on its first play from scrimmage and the Bears converted that into a touchdown but they got into Blue Devils territory only one more time in the first half. Baylor committed four turnovers which led to 10 points including an interception returned for a touchdown. The Bears finished with just nine first downs as they were a combined 1-15 on third and fourth down conversions.

UAB 30 Coastal Carolina 23

Coastal Carolina outgained the Blazers 327-274 but threw three interceptions and missed a pair of field goals. Two of the interceptions led to two touchdowns for UAB on drives of just 21 and 29 yards. Additionally, the Chanticleers turned the ball over on downs twice and when all said and done, they punted just once all day. UAB took the opening kickoff and drove 79 yards for a touchdown and it never trailed in the game that saw just 205 total yards passing from both teams.

Appalachian St. 20 Texas St. 13

The Mountaineers escaped with a victory despite getting outgained by 102 total yards. Texas St. jumped out to a 10-0 lead but managed only one field goal the rest of the way despite getting inside the Appalachian St. 25-yard line in three of its final four drives. The Bobcats missed a field goal and late in the fourth quarter, they recovered a fumble at their own one-yard line and drove 98 yards only to be stopped short at the Mountaineers one-yard line as time expired.

Western Michigan 37 Idaho 28

Idaho was in control most of the game but fell apart in the final quarter. The Vandals took a 28-19 lead into the final period but allowed 18 points to the Broncos. In four possessions in the fourth quarter, they punted twice while throwing an interception and fumbling on just 12 plays in total. Overall, three Idaho turnovers turned into 13 Western Michigan points. The Vandals won the yardage battle 399-347 and in seven Broncos scoring drives, only one of those was more than 48 yards.

Cincinnati 21 Miami Ohio 17

Cincinnati won the yardage battle 361-291 but scored just once through three quarters as it had two interceptions, a missed field goal and a turnover on downs. Miami kicked a field goal with 4:45 left in the game to take a 17-6 lead but Cincinnati went 75 yards on eight plays to pull within three points and then three plays later, picked off a Gus Ragland pass and returned it 14 yards for the winning score. The RedHawks made it interesting as they drove to the Cincinnati 20-yard line but turned it over on downs.

California 27 Mississippi 16

Mississippi outgained the Golden Bears 416-400 and had the lead late in the third quarter before giving the game away. The Rebels led 16-7 at halftime but the offense was unable score the rest of the way. California took a 20-16 lead late in the fourth quarter and three plays later, returned an interception for a touchdown to seal the win. The Rebels last nine possessions resulted in six punts, a missed field goal an interception and a turnover on downs.
