The Missouri Tigers are set to tangle with the North Carolina Tar Heels in an
intriguing college football betting matchup on Monday night as the
Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana hits the spotlight on Boxing
Day.

After losing four of their first seven games of the
season the Tigers turned things around to win four of their last five matchups
and finish at 7-5 SU and 6-6 ATS, including 5-4 SU in Big 12 Conference action.
That late stretch of success was highlighted by victories over Texas A&M and
Texas (both ranked No. 16 in the country at the time) sandwiched around a close
three-point loss to Robert Griffin III and the Baylor
Bears.
Tigers quarterback James Franklin stepped up his
game when star running back Henry Josey went down with a season-ending knee
injury in the win over Texas on November 12, but the sophomore pivot will have
to be much sharper than he was while throwing three interceptions in Missouri’s
24-10 over a weak Kansas team last time out.
Missouri finished with the
nation’s 11th-ranked rushing attack at 236.3 yards per game, and scored 32.2
points per game to sit 33rd in the FBS rankings.
The Gamecocks,
meanwhile, struggled down the stretch while losing four of their final six games
to finish at 7-5 SU and 6-6 ATS, including 3-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference
results. Their only late-season victories in that sequence came against Wake
Forest on October 29 and versus Duke in their most recent game on November
26.
The Tigers, who won the Independence Bowl in 2005 with a 38-31
victory over South Carolina, are favored by five points to beat the Tar Heels
this time around.
