The high-scoring Southern Miss Golden Eagles will be looking to heat up the
field at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Saturday night against the underdog Nevada

The Golden Eagles won ten of their last eleven
games after losing a 26-20 decision to Marshall back in Week 2, including a
stunning 49-28 romp over Houston which was then undefeated and ranked No. 6 in
the country in the Conference USA championship game on December 3. Southern Miss
finished with a record of 11-2 SU and 8-4-1 ATS including 6-2 SU in conference
play to earn their Bowl berth under the sunshine in Hawaii.
Following
that Week 2 defeat to Marshall, the Golden Eagles failed to score at least 30
points in only one game (a 27-3 victory over SMU on October 22) while finishing
up the season ranked 14th in the nation in scoring with an average of 37.8
points per game. The defense also ranked a stingy 29th overall allowing just
21.1 points per game.
Nevada, meanwhile, dropped two of its final three
games on the heels of an impressive five-game midseason winning streak to finish
up at 7-5 SU and 5-7 ATS, including 5-2 SU in Western Athletic Conference
matchups. They ranked eighth in the nation on the ground with an average of
251.8 yards rushing per game.
The Wolf Pack will be hoping to carry over
some momentum from their 56-3 romp over Idaho their last time out, in which
backup QB Tyler Lantrip led Nevada to 587 yards of total
offense. Starting pivot Cody Fajardo (ankle) is expected to be
ready to go on Saturday night, with the Wolf Pack currently listed as 6.5-point
underdogs against the Golden Eagles.
