Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks, NFL Preseason Week 1 Betting Pick

Week 1 of the NFL Preseason is set to kick off this week, and every team will get a chance to get on the field. The Denver Broncos will travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks this weekend, and Denver already has a win under their belts. The Broncos defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the 2019 Hall of Fame Game last week, and will look to bring that momentum into this matchup. Seattle has a team that is looking to make the playoffs again this season, and that will try to kick off their season with a win in this game.

Seattle got off to a slow start in 2018, but they had a terrific finish to the season. The Seahawks finished the regular season with a 10-6 record to earn a Wild Card berth in the NFC. The Seahawks suffered a close two-point loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Playoffs, but this team should be one of the top teams in the league again this season. Denver lost four straight games to end the 2018 regular season, and it cost Vance Joseph his job as head coach. The Broncos finished the 2018 season with a record of 6-10, and things don’t look much better for them this season. Lock Still a Work in Progress For Broncos

The Denver Broncos selected Missouri quarterback Drew Lock in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, and he appears to be their future. Lock will get plenty of chances to show off his skills in the preseason, but he struggled a bit in the Hall of Fame Game. Lock went 7-11 for just 34 yards in his first appearance in the NFL, and new head coach Vic Fangio wasn’t impressed. The Broncos have several other quarterback options who will suit up in this game, but veteran Joe Flacco likely won’t be one of them.

Defense has carried the Broncos in the last few seasons, and that formula for success won’t change in 2019. Vic Fangio is a defensive guru, and he has to be salivating at the chance to coach Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Miller and Chubb combined for 26.5 sacks in 2019, and that number should go up with a new defensive system. The Broncos allowed just 10 points in the Hall of Fame Game, and they should be solid in this game.

Seahawks Should Have Improved Defense

The “Legion of Boom” is no longer suiting up for the Seattle Seahawks, and the team struggled a bit on defense in 2018. Seattle was playing a bunch of younger players last season, and those youngsters should be much better in year two. The Seahawks also led the NFL in rushing a season ago, and that should take a ton of pressure off of this defense. There will be plenty of players who are playing for a roster spot on the defense in this game.

Quarterback Russell Wilson isn’t likely to see the field in the preseason opener, but he is still one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Wilson can beat teams with his arm and his legs, and knows how to deliver for the Seahawks when they need it the most. Wilson threw for 3,448 yards a season ago, and takes care of the ball with the best of them. Running back Chris Carson burst onto the scene with over 1,100 yards a season ago, and should see a ton of carries this season. 

Seattle Defeats Broncos in Week 1

Even though the Broncos should have some of the rust off already, things get a little more serious in the preseason. Seattle will be at home in this game, and they have one of the best home field advantages in the league. Even though this game doesn’t count in the standings, it will give the “12th Man” their first chance to watch their beloved team. This should be a close game throughout, but the Seahawks will come away with a comfortable win.
