Auburn quarterback Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy last
season and then promptly departed for the NFL Draft – where he was the top
overall selection by the Carolina Panthers.
That means the race for the Heisman Trophy this season will have a new winner
– and that winner could be one of the other three finalists from 2010: Stanford
quarterback Andrew Luck, Oregon running back LaMichael
James, or Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore.
And Luck is the favorite on the college
football betting odds to win the trophy at the Bodog Sportsbook right now,
sitting at 9/2 on that futures board. Luck threw for 3,338 yards with 32
touchdowns and just eight interceptions for the Cardinal last season, and is
widely expected to follow Newton as the top selection in next year's NFL
Draft. Bet
on the Heisman Trophy now.
James rushed for 1,622 yards and 21 scores for the Ducks last season and sits
at 15/2 to win the Heisman this season. Moore, at 18/1 odds, passed for 3,845
yards and 35 touchdowns for the Broncos last year, only getting picked off six
times.
Second to Luck on the current Heisman odds at the Bodog Sportsbook is
Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones at 13/2, and he threw for
4,718 yards and 38 touchdowns for the Sooners last season. Oklahoma teammate
Ryan Broyles, at 15/1 odds, had 1,622 receiving yards and 14 TD
catches in 2010.
Rounding out the top contenders on the Heisman
odds list are South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore
at 7/1, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson at 15/2, and
Alabama running back Trent Richardson at 10/1. Oklahoma State
wide receiver Justin Blackmon is then at 15/1 odds, with
Arkansas running back Knile Davis at 16/1 odds.
