Could this week’s game against a struggling Boston College team be a bit of a trap for No. 8 Clemson? The Tigers enter off beating three ranked teams in a row for the first time in school history (only ACC team to do it three consecutive weeks) as they host a BC team that won’t have its best offensive player. Clemson opened as a 21-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

Boston College (1-4, 0-2) looks like one of the worst teams in the ACC so far. The offense has managed more than 19 points in just one game this season, and that was the Eagles’ lone win, a blowout of FCS team Massachusetts. In last week’s 27-19 loss to Wake Forest, star RB Montel Harris carried 22 times for 108 yards, setting the school's all-time rushing record with a 26-yard carry early in the fourth quarter. He currently has 3,735 yards.

Harris missed the first three games with an injury, and his problems have returned and he won’t play this week after having an MRI on his left knee. Harris already has had two surgical procedures on that knee. It’s possible his collegiate career is over. With Harris out, backup running back Andre Williams would be the main guy, but Williams twisted his right ankle against Wake Forest and is regarded as "iffy" for Clemson.

The Tigers (5-0, 2-0) are up to No. 8 in the country and easily one of the country’s big surprises. Having beaten the presumed two top other teams in the ACC the past two weeks in Florida State and Virginia Tech, the Atlantic Division is there for the taking for Clemson. The offense has carried the day most of the season, led by QB Tajh Boyd and freshman WR Sammy Watkins, but the defense held the Hokies to just three points last week in a 23-3 blowout. The defense held Virginia Tech to 258 yards and no touchdowns at home for the first time since 1995.

BC and Clemson are tied 9-9-2 all-time, but the Eagles won 16-10 last year in Boston. The Tigers have two touchdowns in the last two years against the Eagles and neither is an offensive score.
