With the fall of Georgia Tech last week, the No. 7 Clemson Tigers now appear to be easily the class of the ACC and they are in fact the only unbeaten team left in that conference. Clemson hosts a solid North Carolina team on Saturday. Clemson opened as an 11-point favorite on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

The Tigers (7-0, 4-0 ACC) are a bit fortunate to not have a loss. Last week at Maryland, Clemson was down 18 points (35-17) early in the third quarter. But the Tigers stormed back QB Tajh Boyd, who went 26 for 38 for 270 yards as the catalyst of an offense that amassed 576 yards. Freshman WR Sammy Watkins scored on an 89-yard kickoff return that put Clemson up 49-45 with 7:24 left. Watkins returned an earlier kickoff 70 yards, and his 345 all-purpose yards set a school record. Andre Ellington rushed for a career-high 212 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, whose 18-point comeback was the second largest in school history, trailing only a 28-point comeback win in 1992 against Virginia

North Carolina (5-2, 1-2) was surprised at home by Miami (Fla.) last week, 30-24. Bryn Renner passed for 288 yards and two touchdowns for the Tar Heels, who trailed 27-3 late in the second quarter before nearly rallying. Giovani Bernard rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, becoming the first North Carolina player to rush for at least 100 yards in five consecutive games since Ethan Horton in 1984. UNC’s rush defense is among the nation’s best and held Miami’s Lamar Miller, the ACC’s leading rusher, to just 29 yards on 16 carries.

Clemson has won five of the past seven meetings in this series. Last year in Chapel Hill, UNC won 21-16.
