After several losses in a row in a series, a team probably suffers from a lack of confidence. In college football, series streaks are snapped in some cases when the losing team has vastly superior talent to the team that has defeated them. The talent advantage gives the team the much-needed confidence and motivation to finally get over the hump and get a victory.

This is a conference game, which is always important, and the Gamecocks felt they had a legitimate chance to take down the eventual National Champions last season but missed opportunities cost them the victory.
