Since Major League Baseball shifted to the wild-card format in the postseason in 1995, only four of 40 teams to fall down 2-0 in a series have ever rallied to win a division series matchup. And it has never happened in the National League. The Arizona Diamondbacks look to be the first on Friday afternoon when they go back to Milwaukee for Game 5 of the NLDS. The Brewers opened at -150 on Bodog’s MLB baseball odds.

Which Arizona team will show up? The team that was outscored 13-5 in losing the first two games of the series in Miller Park? Or the one that put up 18 runs including and hit .343 in winning two games at Chase Field? Arizona was also a whopping 9-for-20 with runners in scoring position in Games 3 and 4 but just 1-for-11 in the first two games. The Snakes are sort of all or nothing. Seventeen of the 23 runs the D-backs have scored in the postseason have come via the home run, including 12 of the 18 runs Arizona scored at home.

The pitching matchup today is a rematch of Game 1 between Arizona’s Ian Kennedy and Milwaukee’s Yovani Gallardo. The Brewers won that game 4-1 as Kennedy allowed four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. Gallardo was masterful, allowing one run on four hits and striking out nine in eight innings. He has been almost unhittable of late. Dating back to the regular season, Gallardo has gone 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA over his past four outings and Milwaukee has won all four. He also is 10-2 this year with a 3.00 at Miller Park, where the Brewers had the best home record in MLB by a wide margin. But it also should be noted that Kennedy didn’t lose back-to-back games all season.

The winner here faces the Philadelphia-St. Louis winner in Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday. If Philly wins, the game is there, but if the Cards win then either the Brewers or Diamondbacks would have home-field advantage.
