It will be the end of one era and possibly two on the blue turf in Boise,
Idaho, on Saturday evening when Boise State closes its regular-season schedule
in what should be a blowout of New Mexico, arguably the worst program right now
in the FBS. The Broncos, who still hope for a BCS bowl bid that’s probably not
coming, are 48.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

There could be a lot of changes coming at Boise
State (10-1), including a move to the Big East. But for sure this is the final
home game for future College Football Hall of Famer and Heisman candidate
Kellen Moore, who has more wins than any other QB in NCAA
history. In last week’s 36-14 win over Wyoming, Moore did not have one of his
best games as he had an interception returned for a touchdown. Still, he did
throw three touchdown passes, and went 24-of-36 for 279 yards, and went over the
3,000 yard passing mark. He now has thrown for more than 3,000 yards in each of
his four seasons as a starter. Moore also is completing a career-high 73.1
percent of his passes, and has 38 touchdowns to seven
interceptions.
Meanwhile, there is talk UCLA is going to throw tons of
money at BSU coach Chris Petersen to replace Rick
Neuheisel there. Petersen has turned down similar offers before,
including last year by Stanford, and reportedly has already said no to UCLA. But
with his star QB leaving, this could be the time for Petersen to finally head
for a major conference.
New Mexico (1-10) couldn’t possibly be any
worse. The Lobos are last in college football in points per game (13.1) and
second-to-last in points allowed per game (41.4). The program fired coach
Mike Locksley in late September after going 2-26 in two-plus
seasons. Associate head coach and defensive coordinator George Barlow
has been serving as interim coach. But the full-time successor already
has been named: former Notre Dame head coach Bob Davie. UNM
does actually enter having gone 1-1 in its past two games. The Lobos beat UNLV
21-14 two games ago for their third win in three seasons.
BSU and New
Mexico haven’t met since 2000. BSU is actually 0-5 ATS in its past five games.
UNM has covered three of its past 10 as a dog of more than 10
points.
