BIG DANCE PREVIEW: St. Louis Region

Atlanta Bound- I'm going to go with the chalk here and pick Florida as I really think that this is the weakest bracket at least in terms of the top seeds. The Gators seem to have regained their edge after 3 straight double digit road losses in February, and statistically this team is almost a mirror of last year: truly dominant. They shoot a gaudy 53% from the field yet only allow just over 40% defensively. Along with Kansas and Georgetown, and Texas AM they are one of only 4 teams that shoot over 49% and allow better than 41% from the field. They are also second in the nation in defensive 3FG %! Yes, at times there have been lapses, but we all know the old saying about having that bullseye on your back. Brewer and Horford still don't get enough credit on this team, but they are two of the top players in the country.

Wisconsin is well-coached by Bo Ryan and really get after you on defense, but this team is missing Brian Butch on offense. Chicago is a nice early sight for them, and may be enough to get them through, but I can't see much further after that. Oregon is a top 15 caliber as a 3 seed, but Ernie Steele has to prove he can coach with the likes of Donovan, Ryan, and Maryland's Gary Williams in this region.

UNDERSEEDED- UNLV REBELS. Sure the Rebels benefitted from the MWC Tourney being played on their home floor. But this is a DANGEROUS team led by slick senior PG Kevin Kruger. Don't forget this team has quality road wins (many in this tourney don't!) at Nevada, Texas Tech, and Hawaii. I really feel like they deserved a 5 or 6 seed, and can be a live underdog in this tourney.

DEEP SLEEPER - Could be a number of teams in this slot, and we all know about the Digger Phelps darling Winthrop, who's showdown with a tough Notre Dame team is one of the better 1st round matchups this year. However, the Davidson Wildcats are also a team that can pull a shocker vs. an inconsistent Maryland team. They are perfectly fine with running up and down the court with theTerps, and may even win the battle on the boards. They are deadly from the stripe (75%) and the 3 pt. line (38%) and when hot can step up and beat a lot of teams.
