With Southern Cal ineligible for the Pac-12 South Division title this season, No. 22 Arizona State can take a huge step toward that crown with a win over division foe Utah on Saturday. And the Sun Devils are 4.5-point road favorites on Bodog’s NCAA football odds.

The first season in the Pac-12 hasn’t gone well for Utah (2-2, 0-2 Pac-12). The Utes have had no trouble with their two non-conference games but have managed only 14 points each in losses to USC and, last week, Washington. The Huskies held Utah to 17 yards rushing and forced five turnovers in the 31-14 win in Salt Lake City.

Utah starting quarterback Jordan Wynn did not play in the second half due to an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder. And he won’t play for at least a few more games, either. JuCo transfer Jon Hays will get his first start. Hays, who had previously thrown one major-college pass, was intercepted on his second attempt Saturday vs. UW. He fumbled in the fourth quarter before tossing a last-minute 4-yard TD pass to Dallin Rogers and finished 10-for-16 for 156 yards.

Arizona State (4-1, 2-0) has had little trouble in conference wins over USC and, last week, 35-20 over Oregon State. But both those games were in the desert. ASU actually was sluggish against the Beavers, falling down 13-0 and turning it over four times overall. QB Brock Osweiler had all four of the turnovers. But last week was a bit of a trap game after a big win over USC.

Keep an eye on dynamic ASU WR Jamaal Miles. He returned a punt for a score vs. Oregon State (school’s first punt return TD since 2005) and is the only player in the nation to have scored a touchdown on a reception, kickoff return and punt return as well as throw a TD pass.

ASU and Utah haven’t met since 1993 and this will be the Devils’ first trip to Salt Lake since 1977. Arizona State has dropped 10 of 14 conference road games the last three seasons as it prepares to play its first Pac-12 away game.
