Last week’s System of the Week qualified a play on the Michigan State Spartans in their game against the Wisconsin Badgers. The system of the week won again as the Spartans QB Kirk Cousins connected with Keith Nichol on a 44-yard Hail Marry pass to win the game with no time left on the clock 37 to 31. The systems record improves to 12-0 ATS since 1993.
While the vast majority of college football games are played on Saturdays, there are an increasing number of games played on other days of the week. These are usually primetime, nationally televised contests. Players and school officials treat such games as special events, much as NFL teams have given extra attention to their Sunday night and Monday night games.
Database research has uncovered many scenarios in which college teams not only perform to a consistent level in these highlighted contests, but also immediately preceding or following such games. This week’s system looks at how teams do following one of these primetime contests.
Our research has isolated a situation where conference underdogs of more than a field goal coming off a non-Saturday victory have used that momentum in their next contest as long as it is during the first two-thirds of the season.
SYSTEM: In Games, 2-8, play ON a Saturday conference underdog of more than 3 points off a non-Saturday favorite SU win. The system has a record of 16-0 ATS covering by an average of 16.0 points per game since 1991.
The Arizona Wildcats hosted the UCLA Bruins back on Thursday October 20 and the game was seen nationally on ESPN. The Wildcats were favored in this contest by 5-points over the Bruins. When the dust settled the Cats had demolished the Bruins winning straight up 48 to 12 and covering the spread in the process. Arizona now travels to the Pacific Northwest for a conference clash against the Washington Huskies on Saturday.
With all the system parameters met, this week’s Cajun Sports NCAA Football System of the Week qualifies the Arizona Wildcats over the Washington Huskies on Saturday. This week’s Play ON team is the Arizona Wildcats plus the points over the Washington Huskies.
