With the unique regional scheduling for the MLS’ return to play, Atlanta United and Orlando City SC meet for the second time in eight days when they faceoff in Florida Saturday night. Both teams have a Wednesday contest between the two games as Orlando City travel to Nashville and Atlanta United travel to Inter Miami FC. This game kicks off Saturday at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

The first matchup between the teams on August 29 in Atlanta was Orlando City’s first ever win over United as they took all three points with a 3-1 result. Atlanta has six wins in MLS play and two draws in this series while also knocking Orlando City out of the 2019 US Open Cup with a 2-0 road win. Orlando City has never taken a point from Atlanta United in a home game with the visitors winning by a combined 8-2 in their four visits.

Atlanta United Outlook: Be Consistent

The Five Stripes are 1-1 heading into the Florida trip under interim coach Stephen Glass who took over from fired coach Frank de Boer after the Orlando tournament failure. Atlanta United was shut out in all three tournament game losses and have bounced back to score three goals in their two games under Glass.

Pity Martinez scored his first two goals of the season in the 2-0 win over Nashville on August 22. He is tied with Emerson Hyndman and Ezequiel Barro for the team lead in goals with former league MVP Josef Martinez out for the season with a knee injury.

Atlanta United has scored seven goals in seven games this season with eight goals allowed. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan has 17 saves, three wins and one clean sheet on the season. They haven’t played a true road game since a 2-1 win in Nashville on February 29 before the two games this week in Florida.

Orlando City SC Outlook: Repeat Performance

Orlando City enters their midweek game against Nashville in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points and could be as high as second place by time Atlanta comes to town Saturday. They bounced back from a loss in the first post-tournament game to beat both Nashville and Atlanta 3-1 and they have five wins in their last seven games, including a runner up finish in the MLS is Back Tournament.

Nani has scored three regular-season goals and he added three more in the tournament. His up top partner Christopher Mueller has six regular-season goals while rookie Daryl Dike scored two goals in the win over Nashville and has three total goals. Junior Urso scored the opener against Atlanta in the last meeting as the Lions built a 2-0 halftime lead.

Pedro Gallese has 22 saves in eight regular season games with 10 goals allowed on the season. He has recorded one clean sheet in the four wins and also has two draws. The Lions have scored 15 regular-season goals, the most among the 14 Eastern Conference teams.

Atlanta is in eighth place and really need to find a way to pick up points in their two games in Florida this week. The offense has been very hit or miss all season under both de Boer and Glass. Meanwhile this has already been a season of firsts for Orlando City and they continue to impress and surprise. Look for the Lions to finally get a home point and win over Atlanta United in Saturday’s contest.
